Week 10 Picks

Pittsburgh is one of the more confusing teams to figure out in the NFL. The talent is certainly there on the offensive side of the ball, but injuries have derailed consistent success.  Big Ben will be playing for his 2nd straight game after the disappointing Ravens loss last week.  Dak Prescott and the Cowboys continue to roll winning their 7th straight after abusing the Browns last week.  Dallas continues to roll on offense with a balanced attack of Zeke Elliot and smart play by Prescott.  The defense is not exposed to many plays which is how they won the division two years ago.  The Steelers backs are against the walls I like Mike Tomlin to rally the troops to get a W at home.

We know who the Cowboys are.  Do we know who the Steelers are?  I do not.  They have come out and pounded teams like KC and have been pounded by the likes of the Eagles.  Until they can get consistent play from both sides of the ball they won’t be winning many games.  With Big Ben still reeling and only his 2nd game back I’ll take Dallas in a 10 point win.

Brian:  SAINTS 27, BRONCOS 21

I did not expect this turnaround from Sean Payton and the Saints. They are a tough team to play at home inside the dome.  Denver is coming off a Sunday night loss in Oakland where they were really dominated in almost every facet.  Trevor Siemian is a game manager and that has become apparent after his early season success.  The Broncos offense is also struggling to run the football without lead back CJ Anderson.  I like the Saints aerial attack at home with Drew Brees as Aqib Talib is expected to miss another game with his back injury.

Ryan:   SAINTS 23, BRONCOS 21

Broncos aren’t the same team as last year.  That’s not a total surprise.  It’s extremely tough to repeat and bring that same championship energy level.  The Saints are playing much better as of late and are back in the NFC South race.  Because this game is at home I’ll take the home Saints and the dome.

It would be interesting to see if this game was being played in the Northwest. Instead this Sunday night game will be in Foxboro as the Pats are coming off a bye.  Seattle also played a close one against the Bills on Monday night, and make that cross country trek.  Belichick was in the news this week for politics and predictably had a great response during his press conference with the media.  You never want to face a rested and annoyed Patriots team that’s a recipe for disaster.  Seattle’s defense has been suspect in recent weeks too, and Michael Bennett will miss this game again.  If Tyrod Taylor can pick apart the Seahawks then Tom Brady will do that and much more.

This is the best game of the weekend.  Patriots are rolling with TB back in the saddle.  I’m interested in finding out who is officiating this game.  They will need to control the emotions on both sides.  I like the Patriots simply because they had an extra week with the bye to prepare.

Brian:  FALCONS 34, EAGLES 20

The Eagles can win this game at home by reverting back to ball control and winning the time of possession against a potent Falcons offense. I have no faith any of that is going to happen on Sunday.  33 year old Darren Sproles is now the feature back for this offense which obviously hampers his effectiveness and the overall ground attack.  I, along with many other Eagles fans, I’m sure have not been huge fans of the recent game plan or play calling by Doug Pederson.  The offense needs to become more vertical as it did at times last week during the Giants game for any chance of prolonged success.  I don’t envision the defense being picked apart in this game, but a lack of offensive support will lead to the Falcons scoring.  If the Eagles turn it over like they did last week this one could get real ugly.

Ryan:   EAGLES 24, FALCONS 19

I have a pretty good beat on this team I think.  I was worried about the effect the Dallas game would have on the overall psyche of this team.  Take into account the players are 4-2 and the head coach is 0-2 this is a game Eagles fans should be worried about.  I actually like the Eagles here.  Even though the Falcons will have a mini bye and basically the 4th team to play the Eagles off an extended break.  No idea how that happens but it is what it is at this point.  I think this team realizes there is some talent on this roster.  I expect Doug to coach his best game of the year.  This Eagles O should be able to move the ball against an average Falcons D.

Brian’s Record:           17-18

Ryan’s Record:                        18-17
