This Week in Gambling (Week 9)

Panthers (-3) at Rams

Carolina has been one of the biggest disappointments this season after losing in the Super Bowl to Denver.  They walloped Arizona at home last week and could be the first step towards the team everyone expected.  The Rams are coming off the bye and Case Keenum still stinks.  Cam Newton had a good conversation with the Commish this week so we’ll see if the penalty flags start to fly.  I’ll ride with the money against Keenum and Jeff Fisher.

Jets (+3.5) at Dolphins

I went back and forth on this game as it seems like Vegas almost wants you to bet the Jets on the road.  Miami is coming off the bye as well and had been playing solid football prior to that especially Jay Ajayi.  This is a matchup between two average quarterbacks who can turn the ball over at awful times.  The Jets have won five straight against the Dolphins so I’ll reluctantly go with the points on the road.

Titans (+4) at Chargers

Tennessee has had 10 days of rest after blowing out the Jags at home on Thursday night in Week 8.  They have established an identity as a football team this year by running the football behind a very good offensive line.  Marcus Mariota still doesn’t do it for me, but in this offense he doesn’t have to win football games on his own.  San Diego is another team that can be easily described as unpredictable.  They lost last week on the road at Denver and head into this contest with a banged up team.  Even though Ken Whisenhunt will be facing his former employer in the Titans, I like the road underdog to cover.

Alabama at LSU (+7)

This is easily the best game of the weekend in a very underwhelming college slate.  It’s always fun when these two teams meet underneath the lights in Baton Rouge.  Coach O has the boys of LSU playing good football since taking over for Les Miles.  Believe it or not even with two losses LSU has a really good chance of making the college football playoff with the strength of schedule they have left.  Alabama completely neutralized Leonard Fournette in last year’s matchup all but eliminating him from the Heisman race.  I expect to have a better go of it this time around against the Tide which gives the Tigers a chance to pull off the upset.  Alabama is also without standout safety Eddie Jackson who was lost for the season with a leg injury.  I’ll take the Tigers getting the points at home, and even considering the under in this game as well.
