Inside The NFC East – Week 1

Football is around the corner.  It’s so close you can almost taste it.  Most of you had your fantasy drafts by now and are ready to settle in for the long season.  Last year we brought you a weekly NFC roundup and preview blog.  We will be doing the same this year.  The NFC East is arguably the toughest division in football.  No other division beats up one another like this one does.  When you win the NFC east you earn the toughness needed for a deep playoff run.

See our preview questions Friday.

Doesn’t it seem like these two teams open up against one another every year?  I always like  when these teams battle it out right out of the gate.  One of these teams will open with a loss and that’s always a good thing.  The rest of the league will finally get a look at Dak Prescott.  If you forget he was taken in the 4th round.  The way people talk about him you would think he won the Heisman and was taken 1st overall.  Prescott played well during the preseason.  I’m not saying he’s not going to be good but I do expect him to struggle early in the season.

The Giants are going into this game with some trouble themselves.  There OL has struggled and there overall offensive output has been inconsistent in the preseason.  A good remedy for those ailments would be a struggling defense.  Dallas is going to have a tough time stopping the Giants.  If the Dallas can pound the rock up front they can keep their defense off the field.  I expect a big dose of new RB Elliott.  This game could be sloppy early but I believe the Giants will pull away in the end.

My writing partner and I expect the Skins to win the NFC East.  They get a nice test right out of the gate.  These teams will beat up on one another but I expect the Redskins to get earn a W in the end.  I have a feeling the Steelers will start out slow.  They didn’t risk any injury with their starters during the preseason.  They could start slow as they work towards getting on the same page.

This will be a good test for the Skins defense.  Over the past decade the Steelers have transformed from a grind it out defensive team to an air it out offensive team.  New corner Josh Norman (who still hasn’t shut the hell up) will have a nice test right out of the gate.  For the record I think Norman is incredibly overrated.  He’s in his late 20’s and had one good year.  We’ll see how it plays out.  There’s a chance I could eat crow but I don’t think I will.
