Cleveland Browns- CB Jalen Ramsey (Florida State)
Originally I had the Browns selecting Carson Wentz from North Dakota State with the number 2 pick. Recently, the team signed quarterback Robert Griffin III who will more than likely be the Week 1 starter, if he remains healthy, after he signed a 2 year contract. I just cannot see Cleveland signing Griffin then a month later taking a quarterback with the 2nd pick in the draft. Hue Jackson apparently fell in love after he saw RG3 workout and the rest was history. The Browns have numerous holes to fill and simply can’t spend a pick on a player who might not see the field year one. Jalen Ramsey from Florida State is considered to be the best defensive player in the draft and some experts even have Ramsey projected number 1 overall to Tennessee. He is a physical press corner who has the size at 6’1 to compete with bigger receivers at the next level. Ramsey has great leaping ability which allows him to win battles at the height of the ball. This is key in today’s NFL with the continued freakish athleticism being displayed by many wideouts. Scouts have commented they would like to see Ramsey display more competitiveness and consistency to his game. Motor is always a word which gets tossed around come draft time and can be difficult to evaluate at times for certain players. The bottom line is the Browns need players wherever they can get them and Ramsey would be a welcome addition to the secondary. He has the ability to play outside and in the slot helping his transition for his rookie season as well. Currently, Cleveland starts Joe Haden and Tramon Williams on the outside with a trio of former high draft picks further down the depth chart. Former first round pick Justin Gilbert is one of those players. Some scouts also believe Ramsey can move to safety and the Browns just lost Tashaun Gipson via free agency.
