Eagles (4-6) vs Lions (3-7) Week 12 – Preview

First and foremost Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  What a week it’s been for Eagles fans.  After a pathetic lack luster quitter’s performance against the Bucs the rumors swirled in regards to Chip Kelly.  One report from NJ.com had an “unnamed” agent of an “unnamed” player reveal Chip has lost the locker room and the players can’t stand him.  Multiple media outlets had a report from Adam Schefter that the Eagles and Chip would part ways.  The interview was given on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller.  The problem is, no one actually listened to the words.  Schefter was simply speculating.  Pat Kirwan did elude to (in the same interview) he had a source that says Kelly is all but gone.  Usually where there’s smoke there’s fire but we’ll see how this plays out.

A year ago today the Eagles beat the Cowboys to get to 9-3 on the season.  That game feels like it was a decade ago.  Since that game the Eagles are 5-9 and things only look to be getting worse.

Below is the injury report from philadelphiaeagles.com for both teams -The Eagles’ final injury report for the week was released on Wednesday afternoon and quarterback Sam Bradford (concussion, left shoulder), center Jason Kelce (knee) and tackle Jason Peters (back) are all questionable for the Bird Day matchup with the Detroit Lions.  It should be noted that Bradford was a full participant, while Kelce did not practice on Wednesday.  Tight end Zach Ertz (concussion) and running back Ryan Mathews (concussion, groin) were ruled out. The good news for Ertz is that he was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice.  The following players are probable for the Eagles: linebacker Kiko Alonso (ankle), linebacker Connor Barwin (quadricep), linebacker DeMeco Ryans (hamstring), defensive end Cedric Thornton(ankle) and safety Walter Thurmond (hamstring) – philadelphiaeagles.com.

The Lions –       Carey, Don S Back LP LP FP QUESTIONABLE
Ebron, Eric TE Quad, Hand LP FP LP PROBABLE
Johnson, Calvin WR Ankle LP LP LP QUESTIONABLE
Reid, Caruan DT Ankle LP LP LP QUESTIONABLE
Slay, Darius CB Neck LP LP FP QUESTIONABLE
Wright, Gabe DT Ankle LP LP LP QUESTIONABLE          (philadelphiaeagles.com)

Sam Bradford did practice during the week but it looks as if Mark Sanchez will get the start for the Eagles later today.  He will have one less weapon due the Zach Etrz’ concussion.  He will not be cleared from concussion protocol.  It takes at least 5 days to clear and there simply isn’t enough time with the Thursday game.  Look for Trey Burton to get some big time reps.  The Eagles have been running 2 TE heavy lately.  He will get some targets.

Over the last couple weeks the Eagles have tried to get Nelson Agholor going.  He’s been targeted early and often but still hasn’t been able to get going.  I’m just going to come out and say it.  I was holding out hope for this year but this year is a lost cause for him.  What a waste.

The Eagles defense has been awful the last 2 weeks and even in parts of the Dallas game where McFadden ran all over them.  If the Eagles want to win this game they will need to contain Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.  The Lions don’t have a great OL so Cox and Logan should be able to make plays in the backfield.  Detroit hasn’t been able to run the ball effectively so the Eagles should be able to tee – off on Stafford.  Easier said than done.

Prediction – It looks like the Eagles have quit on the season while the Lions have won 2 in a row.  On a short week I’ll go with the home team. LIONS 33 – EAGLES 20
