Fantasy Focus Friday

Quarterbacks

Cam Newton vs. Saints

The Saints defense has not improved at all and Newton has faced them before.  This game is in Carolina and he always plays better at home.  Drew Brees status for this game is in question and that could play a part as well.  Newton has looked solid the first two weeks of the season and faces another lackluster defense on Sunday.

Derek Carr vs. Browns

Carr lit up the Ravens last week and I think he’ll have another good game this week.  He hooked up with Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree all game in Week 2.  The continued development with those guys increases Carr’s fantasy rank.  Cleveland has a pretty solid secondary but I still like Carr in this matchup.

Running Backs

Dion Lewis vs. Jaguars

Lewis has been a target of Tom Brady in the first two weeks.  I’m sure most expect New England to destroy Gus Bradley’s boys on Sunday.  Lewis could see a ton of rushing attempts late with a big lead and will definitely be involved in the passing game as well.  He is a sneaky play for Week 3.

Melvin Gordon vs. Vikings

Gordon has shown bursts of explosiveness during his short NFL career.  I like him to break a few long runs against the Vikings defense this weekend.  Niners running back Carlos Hyde went off Week 1 against the Vikings.  Last week the Lions fell behind early so the run game was pretty much scrapped.  Watch out for Danny Woodhead vulturing touchdowns however.

Wide Receivers

Kendall Wright vs. Colts

Wright has been a target of rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota. The Colts secondary is a mess and Wright is the best wide receiver the Titans have.  Indy is on a short week as well with less prep time.  I like Wright to possibly hit the 100 yard mark and maybe even a score.

Kenny Britt vs. Steelers

Britt had a score last week in a loss to Washington.  The Steelers secondary is still very shaky and this is a home game for the Rams.  I see a nice little connection early between Nick Foles and Britt.  Look for the Rams to go after the Steelers secondary especially with the solid run defense Pittsburgh has.
