Inside The NFC East – Week 1

During the 2015 NFL Season we will post an Inside the East blog every week.  This blog will give you a little insight into what the Eagles division counter parts are doing during the week and leading up to the current weeks game.

Miami at Washington  – Fed Ex Field 1:00 PM

Aside from the New England Patriots there hasn’t been a team with a more chaotic and turmoil filled off – season.  The Redskins were banking on RGIII having a bounce back year.  A slow pre – season with a concussion to match landed him on the bench clearing a spot for Kirk Cousins.  Jay Gruden declared Cousins the 2015 starter.  The Redskins do have talent at the skill positions.  Can they avoid the front office turmoil and QB play that has seemed to plague them in years past?

On Sunday the Redskins go up against an improved Dolphins team looking to break through into the playoff tournament for the first time in years.  The Dolphins already had a nice defense with out Suh.  Suh only adds to the physicality and toughness up front.  I believe this game will be won or lost in the trenches.  The Redskins have been up and down across the offensive line.  Can they do enough hold off the Dolphins front seven?

New York (NYG) at Dallas – AT&T Stadium 8:30 PM

In arguably the game of the week the New York Giants will travel to Jerry’s World to take on the Dallas Cowboys.  In the last 4-5 years these teams have opened up against one another 3 times.  This will mark the second time they’ve squared off in Dallas.  The Cowboys are coming off an outstanding season where they went 12-4 and look to due more of the same during this season.  Gone is rushing champ DeMarco Murray.  He left the Cowboys and signed with the Eagles.  Can the Cowboys replace his production?  They have one of the best lines in the league, time will tell.

The Giants are coming off a their second straight down year.  After a year of struggles under new OC Ben McAdoo I expect the  GMen to be a little more competitive.  The Giants were bit by the injury bug during the preseason with a rash of injuries hitting the safety position.  JPP just reported earlier this week after a long absence due to a fireworks accident where he lost the index finger on his right hand.  I wouldn’t expect him to be ready until the second quarter of the season at the earliest.  One thing I’ll look for during this game is the Cowboys OL first the Giants DL and Cowboys’ skill players downfield vs the Giants’ secondary.  With out JPP I expect Dallas to control the ball and the line of scrimmage.  When they do decide to pass I expect them to take advantage of the Giants depth with big plays downfield.
