Mike Caldwell wore an NFL uniform for six teams during his 11 seasons. Caldwell played his collegiate ball at Middle Tennessee State University where he was drafted in the 3rd round by the Cleveland Browns. Following a Four year stint with the Browns/Ravens Caldwell played one year with the Cardinals, 4 with the Eagles and ended his career one year each with the Bears and Panthers in 02-03.
Bill Belichick and Nick Saban really liked his size coming out of Middle Tennessee State. The hope was Caldwell would be a force in the middle for an up and coming browns defense. With the Browns Caldwell had 152 tackles to go along with 3 interceptions during this tenure there. In 1998 Ray Rhodes brought Caldwell into Midnight Green. He would play with the Eagles for the next 4 years from 1998-01. Mike Caldwell really began to round into form when Andy Reid took over and brought in Jim Johnson to run the defense. Paired with Jeremiah Trotter the Eagles had a nice pair of ILB they could mix and match, Trotter being the Starter. Over 4 seasons Caldwell had 221 tackles, 5 sacks and 3 INTs. For his career he posted 14.5 sacks, 3 FF and 8 INTs.
Mike Caldwell is still making an impact in NFL circles. After his playing career he ventured into Coaching. In 2008 the Eagles hired him as a Defensive Quality Control coach. In 2010 he was promoted to assistant LBs and in 2011 he was promoted again to LB coach. Earlier this year he was hired by the New York Jets as an Assistant Head Coach and ILB Coach.
