Birds Scoop Position Rankings

This week in our BS position rankings we look at the number 6 ranking.  So far we have ranking the QBs 9, DBs, 8 and WRs 7.  With our number 6 power ranking we will look at the Eagles OL.

Based on their 2013 season the offensive line came into the season as the best offensive line in the league.  The Eagles OL started every game as a group during the 2013 season.  As the 2014 season progressed injuries really decimated this unit.  Right now the Eagles have 3/5 of their line set.  Peters, Kelce and Johnson are surely penciled in as starters.  Here is where it starts to get interesting.  Evan Mathis continues to be a no show regarding his contract.  This stalemate has gotten to the point where insiders do not believe he will be with the Eagles come September.  When it comes to player vs team contract disputes I usually side with the player, however in this case Mathis has no leverage and Eagles and firmly entrenched with their position.  They are of the belief that a 33-34 year guard does not deserve a contract extension.  Mathis doesn’t have a leg to stand on and if he did it would be sore because he tore his knee up last season.

Lets assume Mathis is gone.  I tend to agree with the team beat reporters that this will continue to be an ugly situation and eventually lead to a separation between team and player.  That now leaves the Eagles with 3 players for two spots.  Allen Barbre, Matt Tobin and Andrew Gardner will be vying for those spots.  I believe Gardner will play RG.  He did a decent job last year and the Eagles didn’t draft anyone in rounds 1-7 so I think its safe to say he will get the first crack at that position.  Allen Barbre per Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly prefers to play on the left side.  The Eagles feel that is the best spot for him as well.  He will be battling Matt Tobin, a former New England Patriot who was signed during Andy Reid’s last year.  Regardless of who starts or not this group needs to stay healthy.  A cohesive OL is very important to the success of the Eagles.  Because of these factors   and the current state of the other positions we rank the OL 6.
