If you would have asked me this a year ago my answer would have been, “dude are you serious.” Kendricks, a 2nd round pick in the 2012 draft has been a presence at ILB for the last 3 years. He busted onto the scene against the Ravens in the home opener of the 2012 season, breaking up a game ending pass play as the Ravens were driving.
Per reports it’s possible Kendricks might not have as bright a future here as we all thought. Last Saturday morning on 94.1 WIP Ray Didinger revealed the coaches aren’t as high on Kendricks as everyone else.
Here is what they might be thinking. At 6’0″ 240LBs Kendricks doesn’t have ideal size for ILB. We all remember what Chip said in his opening 2013 press conference, “big people, beat up little people.” There have been some durability issues over the last few years as he has missed a handful of games with calf and quad injuries.
Is the writing on the wall for Kendricks? Possibly, where there is smoke there is usually fire. There haven’t been any rumors or anything regarding a contract extension. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Another strong sign has been the recent meetings and visits with ILB prospects of 2015 NFL draft. Info about these players can been seen in our “Defensive Prospects” blogs.
For the record I’m a Kendricks fan. Not too many ILBs have his speed and quickness. Time will tell.
